Hebrew: חֵטְא (chet)

Definition: This will be a different presentation of a word that I normally break down. Please refer to page 22 on your words previously investigated, which is the word חָטָא sin. I am going to use the same three letters and show how vowel points change the meanings of the same word. Here we go. Look at the word we already covered on page 22, חָטָא. Notice the two kamatz (looks like a ‘T’). This carries the sound of “ah.” So, the pronunciation is CHA-TAH, KHAW-TAW. Anyone that has a Strong’s Concordance can go to number 2398. You will find that this word means the following: to miss, to sin, to forfeit, lack, expiate, repent, lead astray, condemn, bear the blame, cleanse, commit by fault, harm, trespass, lead to sin, etc. חֵטְא pronounced CHET, KHATE. Strong’s number is 2399. Meanings are as follows: crime or its penalty, fault, grievously, offence, punishment of sin, accumulated shortcomings that lead to punishment, errors or offences that cause the wrath of a supervisor, etc. חַטָּא pronounced CHATTA, KHAT-TAW (notice the line under the Chet, which is called a patach and is pronounced as a short “ah”). Under the Tet, we see the kamatz which is a long “ah.” Strong’s number is 2400. Meanings are as follows: criminal, or one accounted guilty, offender, sinful, sinner. As a noun, meaning sinners, and adjective meaning sinful. It is used to describe those whom, by their actions, are under the wrath and judgment of G-d. Be careful how you write Hebrew.
